If your vessel has a centrally mounted side cleat, this is probably the best all round compromise with many advantages and few real disadvantages

Early line pick up, only half the boat needs to be in the berth area to secure the moving mooring line. Once secured this line prevents side drift away from the berth

Good control with steering using the moving mooring line as a 'pivot point'

Because there is sufficient vessel hull forward of the moving mooring line 'pivot point' the lever created should be sufficient to hold your boat away from the neighbouring boat. This depends on line tensions fender size and actual space between boats.

This arrangement is likely to allow the moving mooring line to act as a 'stopper' to prevent the bow from reaching the end of the berth and to act to a limited degree as a 'spring' against which the steering and propeller can be used to hold the stern in against or toward the berth.
